Matt Duffy
Meet Matt Duffy,
32. A Personal Trainer. An Athlete.
Matt’s definition of Athlete: Anyone willing to put in the time and effort in order to perform their best. There is no one size fits all for this, anyone and everyone can be an athlete.
Matt participates in Triathlon.
His Mom and Dad are his Athletic Inspiration.
Matt has been active ever since he can remember.
“I grew up playing sports and continued to do so through high school. After high school, alcohol and drug abuse consumed my life. I stopped being active, became a pack-a-day smoker, gained a bunch of weight (about 75 pounds heavier than I am today, and completely stopped taking care of myself. My parents gave me an opportunity to get sober, and after a while, I decided to try to turn my life around.”
After a couple of relapses, Matt moved to California in December of 2016. That’s when he began working out again and in May of 2017, his sister told him she was joining the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training to train for a half marathon and raise money to fight cancer.
“I was all in and before I knew it I was signing up for Ironman 70.3s, marathons, and eventually full Ironman races.”
Matt is currently training to compete in the Ironman World Championship in Kailua Kona in October 2022 and has the honor and privilege to be one of six people to represent the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at the event.
When Matt isn’t being an awesome athlete he is hanging out with his girlfriend, eating A LOT of food, spending time with his friends, raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and doing whatever he can to enjoy this gift of life.

“The most important part of who I am is the sobriety piece. Without that, I am nothing. As of today, I’m almost 5 years sober. I grew up in New Jersey with my dad, mom, and sister. I am a diehard New York Giants and New York Yankees fan.”
