Jessica Martinez
Meet Jessica Martinez, a lot of people call her Jess, regardless what you call her she’s an athlete.
Jessica’s definition of Athlete:
Anyone who shows up and does the work.
When not changing lives as a Behavior Therapist, you can find Jessica running; roller skating; or improving upon her newest hobby, cycling.
You can see her definition of Athlete in her inspiration. Inspiration comes from Strangers running on the street. “There's so much power in putting yourself out there, for a long time I only ran on the treadmill because I had a really awful relationship with how I viewed myself.”
Lydia O'donnell, Jessie Zapo, & Coach Jess were specific names that were dropped. They do the work, they are community advocates, they have inspired me from the very beginning of her running journey.
Jessica didn’t always live this active lifestyle. This journey started at the age of 25, four years ago, when she was gifted a pair of UltraBoosts from her sister.
“I had told myself well, I better run these babies to the ground. That’s where it all started for me. Started from the bottom with such minimal knowledge. Proud of all the growth. I created this for myself.”
Typically you can find Jessica at the skate park with Las Quadrinas, spending time with her sisters, or at her desk making earrings and assembling hair accessories for her small business.
This is for anyone that thinks they cannot do it, whatever it is that you want to do, you can, the hardest part is starting, start where you are. Your journey is unique and I am rooting for you.
I don’t think I have anything else to add other than how much power there is in the community & utilizing your resources, you don’t need to have a coach, the best quality gear, or a lot of money, you have to do the work for it. You have to show up. Start where you are & do what you can, the rest will follow.
